Route Driver Responsibilities:
- Operate 1 - 25 ton automatic diesel truck in accordance with OSHA and
DOT requirements as well as all local, state and federal requirements.
Maintain a clean and safe vehicle.
- Responsible for following a route sheet defined collection, either
residential, commercial or recycling.
- Completely dump all containers and leave the customers location clean
and free of debris.
- Follow the route sheets (lists) continuously throughout the day and
complete all documentation assuring it is neat and legible when turned in to
dispatch at the end of shift.
- Responsible for recovering missed pickups, delivering carts (residential
garbage/recycle containers) and dumpsters.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by the dispatcher or supervisor and
assist other company drivers as directed.
- Notify the dispatcher or supervisor of any blocked containers, misses or
problems that arise on the route.
- Position containers back on the customer's property in an upright
position, insuring lids are properly replaced and containers are not
blocking driveway entrances, mailboxes or traffic on a street.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and equipment. Vehicles must be
kept in a clean manner both inside and out, projecting a clean and
professional image.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Excellent driving record. Must be able to meet all DOT
requirements and CDL "Class B" license required.
- Ability to drive on various terrains and weather types, according to
conditions.
- Possess organization and verbal/written communication skills.
- Positive attitude, excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, ability
to work under pressure and interact positively with others; strong safety
orientation.
- Ability to read a map and apply basic map reading skills.
- Must be able to speak and read English in order to follow written and
verbal instructions and communicate via radio and/or cell phone.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently during route and/or push
large containers on wheels weighting up to approximately 1,000 lbs.
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods, frequent climbing in and
out of vehicle.
- Must be able to work weekends as required (infrequent).
